At the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest of 2008 Kubala-Sosna once again had one of the best sounds at the show according to visitors and reviewers. That is not really “news” as we have always used only first-rate, good-sounding components in the display systems in our exhibit room. RMAF 2009 was no different in that regard.
But there was something very different about our system this year in Denver - the price. Our typical display system could usually be described as “cost no object.” This year at RMAF, the best descriptor of our system might have been “minimalist.”
Our goal was to show that the great sound that everyone had grown accustomed to in our room at shows might have something to do with the cables and not just the expensive gear we typically used.
We used a McIntosh integrated amp ($6,000), a Bryston CD player ($2,700), and Audio Epilog 2-way speakers ($2,500); for a total system equipment cost of $11,200. Along with that we used a combination of an Emotion Interconnect, Expression Speaker Cables and Fascination Power Cords.
Turns out we created a buzz at the show something along the lines of: “Did you hear those little white speakers in the Kubala-Sosna room? WOW!” So once again, in a completely different fashion, we had one of the best, most musical sounds at the show.
We think the cables, which were also used internally on the speakers, had just a little something to do with it as there is more than one way to Connect to the Performance™!
